Libbraille was first created for the TiM project sponsored by the EU Research Programme. It was then continued as part of the Vickie Project.

- BlindStation
- a game platform for blind children. This project is part of the TiM project and libbraille was initially created to add terminals support for this platform
- MozBraille
- MozBraille is an extension to transform Mozilla or Firefox to an accessible Internet browser designed for blind or partially sighted users. It offers to its users Braille outputs with libbraille
- Siragi
- SIRAGI is an open source software designed to help blind and partially sighted people working with their computer. It supports the arabic language.
- Braille translation
- This web tool allows to translate text in Braille. It is possible to select between many languages and Braille alphabets.
- Brltty
- Brltty is a daemon which provides access to the Linux/Unix console (when in text mode) for a blind person using a refreshable braille display. It provides its own Braille display drivers but libbraille can also be used as a driver to support additional displays.
- Vickie transcription tool for mathematical Braille
- This tool allows automatic transcription of Mathematical formulas between Latex, MathML and Mathematical Braille. A web demo of this translation tool is available.
- Wintriangle
- WinTriangle is an application to do Math and physics for the blind. It is made at the Oregon State University and is using Libbraille for Braille support.
- PHP wrapper for libbraille
- This wrapper made by Hartmut Holzgraefe provides most libbraille functionalities in PHP. The link is a PECL package that can be installed using the PEAR installer.
